Styling Mixed Bridesmaid Dresses Like a Pro

Oh, the aesthetically-pleasing and ever-so-chic, mismatched bridesmaid dress trend. Mixed style bridesmaid dresses have been trending for a while, and depending on how you style them, they can provide a great way for your bridesmaids to look and feel their best on your big day, too!

I remember as I was planning my own wedding, I wanted to find a way for my bridesmaids to not ALL look the same. I ultimately had everyone choose different styles of dresses in the same color for my fall wedding, but with spring wedding season kicking up, I couldn’t help but think of all the fun spring color and design combinations for this season.

The images in this post feature some great inspiration for mismatched spring dress colors, but the tips I’m sharing are applicable to weddings in any season. Whatever the time of year, mixing bridesmaid dress styles is one of those small but mighty details that can really tie into the overall look and feel of your wedding day!

Tip #1: Less is More

Unsure of where to even begin? Start by identifying one thing you want to be different for each of your bridesmaids’ looks. Do you want to have every bridesmaid wear a different color? Do you want to keep the same color and have different dress styles? Focusing on one detail will help you achieve the mismatched look while still looking cohesive.

Tip #2: Refer to Your Wedding Colors

If you’re going for the “different colors” look, make sure to keep your wedding colors in mind. Try to keep your bridesmaids’ dresses in the same color family or make sure they have a similar tone. The last thing you want is for one of your girls to stand out from the rest of your wedding color scheme and decor.

Tip #3: See Patterns and Fabrics in Person

You’re going ALL OUT with mismatched bridesmaids dresses - amazing! With a mix of patterns, make a point to see the dresses together to decide if you like the overall look. Same with textures. If you want to mix lace dresses with sequined dresses, make sure to see them side-by-side to envision how your girls will look standing next to you at the altar.

You can consider these three tips to plan for a mismatched, yet cohesive bridesmaid look, BUT I’ve saved the biggest tip for last. No matter how you style your bridesmaids, ask them how they will be most comfortable on your big day. These gals are likely your closest friends and family members who are just as excited to see you get married. The easiest thing you can do is make sure that they feel comfortable and confident in whichever look you choose!
